The maintenance codes are entered in the third and fourth  positions  of  the  Uniform  SMR  Code  format as follows: (a)  The  maintenance  code  entered  in  the third position will indicate the lowest maintenance level  authorized  to  remove,  replace,  and  use  the support item.
