Nitrogen purging cleans the system of residual moisture and contaminants and also removes any liquid refriger-
ant which may be left in the system. All refrigerant. liquid and gaseous. must be removed before evacuating the
system. Refer to figure 4-3 and purge the refrigerant system with gaseous nitrogen at approximately 30 psig (2.1 1
( k s / c m  2) as follows:
Refer to figure 4-2 and release refrigerant from the system in accordance with paragraph 4-6.
a.
b.
Partially remove the junction from the air conditioner. It is not necessary to remove the junction
box cover. (See figure 3- 1 2.)
Disconnect electrical plug P3 from the junction box.
c.
Refer to paragraph 4-14d and remove the dehydrator (drier). Do not replace with a new dehydra-

tor at this time.
Perform all maintenance procedures required on the refrigerant system. including repairing leaks
e.
and inspecting. testing and replacing refrigerant system components.
f.
Refer to figure 4-3 and open valve (14)at point A and valve (15)at point B.
Energize the pressure equalizer solenoid valve ( 12) by applying 24 volts dc across pins E and F of
g.
plug P3.
h.
Connect the nitrogen line to the valve at point A and release nitrogen into the system for approxi-
mately 5 minutes or until moisture ceases to be discharged from the system.
Remove the nitrogen line from the tubing at point A and connect it to the tubing at point B.
i.
Release nitrogen into the system for approximately 5 minutes or until moisture ceases to be
j.
discharged from the system.
k.
Remove the nitrogen line from the tubing at point B and connect it to the tubing at point C.
l.
Release nitrogen into the system for approximately 5 minutes or until moisture ceases to be
discharged from the system.
m. Remove the nitrogen line from the tubing at point C and connect it to the valve at point D.
Release nitrogen into the system for approximately 5 minutes or until moisture ceases to be
n.
discharged from the system.
Remove nitrogen line from the valve at point D and cap tubing at points C and D until installation
o.
of a new dehydrator.
Close valve ( 14) at point A and valve ( 15) at point B. De-energize the pressure equalizer solenoid
p.
valve (12).
Refer to paragraph 4- 14d and install a new dehydrator.
