Section III. Technical Principles of Operation
PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION.

a. G e n e r a l . T h e a i r c o n d i t i o n e r i s i n a v e r t i c a l c o n f i g u r a t i o n c o n s i s t i n g
o f five sections bolted together as shown in figure ll. The five sections, from top
t o b o t t o m c o n s i s t o f t h e f o l l o w i n g : E v a p o r a t o r Fan Section, Evaporator Coil Section,
C o n d e n s e r Fan Section, Condenser Coil Section, and the Compressor Section.
b. E v a p o r a t o r F a n S e c t i o n . T h e evaporator fan section houses the evaporator
f a n motor which drives two squirrel cage fans, The evaporator fans draw air through
a n air filter, over the evaporator coil mounted in the evaporator coil section, and
exhaust it into the conditioned area.
c. E v a p o r a t o r C o i l S e c t i o n . T h e e v a p o r a t o r c o i l s e c t i o n h o u s e s t h e e v a p o r -
ator coil, air filter, expansion valve, suction line shutoff valve and the liquid
line shutoff valve. Air from the conditioned area is drawn through the air filter
a n d over the coil by the evaporator fans mounted in the evaporator fan section. Heat
is absorbed from the air passing over the evaporator coil by the refrigerant passing
t h r o u g h the coil. This actions serves to cool the air as it flows through the evap-
orator coil.
d. C o n d e n s e r F a n S e c t i o n . The condenser fan section houses the condenser
f a n motor which drives two squirrel c a g e fans identical to those contained in the
