4-55. AMBlENT AIR THERMOSTAT (S2)
Preliminary procedure: 1. Remove junction box. (See para 4-29.)
2.
Remove condenser air discharge guard. (See para 4-20.)
3.
Remove lower panel. (See para 4-24.)
a.
Inspection
(1) Check thermostat for cracks or evidence of other visible damage.
Replace if damaged.
b.
Test
Figure 4-52. Thermostat Test Set-Up
(1) Disconnect P10 wiring harness plug.
(2) Using a multimeter set on lowest OHMS scale, check continuity at pins D
and E on P1O wiring harness plug.
Contacts should be closed when the surrounding
temperature is above 50°F (1O°C).
If there is no continuity, replace thermostat.
(3) Tape the bulb of a thermometer to the thermostat gasket. Use a blob of
thermal mastic to improve conductivity.
(4) Place an ice cube to the face of the thermostat gasket.
(5) When the temperature of the thermostat reaches approximately 50°F
(1O°C) the contacts should open.
