TM  9-4120-367-14 TM 07592B-14/1 6.3  REPAIR. - Continued Location/Item Brazing Insulation and Gaskets Hardware Debrazing Shims Repairing  Damaged Threads Action a. b. c. a. b. a. b. c. a. b. a. b. a. b. c. Braze copper to copper joints with silver solder, Grade Ill, IV or VI specifications, QQ-B-654, and copper to brass or copper to steel with Grade IV or VI specifications, QQ-B-654, per MIL-B-7883. Solder  melting  point  is  1160°F  (626°C). All brazed or soldered joints shall be made with an atmosphere of nitrogen to prevent internal oxidation. Replace damaged insulation and gaskets. Cement loose insulation. Replace any damaged screws, washers, Iockwashers  or  nuts. Use screws of correct length to hold parts securely. In some applications, screws that are too long may bottom before the head is tight against the part it is to hold or may cause damage to the threads or other parts. With dry nitrogen flowing through the sys- tem, debraze tubing connections at any fitting near the compressor that will permit convenient removal. Tubing and fittings attached to the com- pressor, after their removal, can be trans- ferred to the replacement compressor be- fore installation in the air conditioner. Be sure to remove all shims where used. Keep shims together and identify them as to location. Damaged threads should be repaired by use of a thread restorer or by chasing in a lathe. Internal threads should be repaired with a tap of the correct size. If threads cannot be satisfactorily re- paired, replace the part. Remarks 6-12
