(6) Testing Field Coils for Grounds: Place one test prod on the connector and the other on a clean spot on the

frame after unsoldering shunt field coil wire. If the ohmmeter indicates continuity, the fields are grounded either at the

connector or in the windings (fig. 5-28).

(7) Testing Field Coils for Open Circuit: Place one prod on the connector and the other on a clean spot on the

brushholder (fig. 5-29). If continuity is good, the field coil is okay. Check all brushholders in the same manner.
