b. Inspect.
(1)
Check to see that all parts are in place and free of dirt and obstruction.
(2)
Clean and lubricate the steel ball joints of the governor linkage, using a drop of light oil or graphite. The
linkage must be able to move freely through its entire range.
(3)
Check the governor arm, linkage, throttle shaft, and lever for a binding condition or excessive slack and wear
at connecting points. A binding condition at any point will cause the governor to act slowly and regulation will be poor.
Excessive looseness will cause a hunting condition and regulation will be erratic.
(4)
Install the air cleaner (see para 4-62).
c. Adjust. (see figure 4-35).
If it is necessary to make adjustments while the engine is running, use extreme caution when close to
hot exhausts, moving parts, etc.
NOTE
On a new replacement engine the governor is set at the factory to allow a nominal engine speed of
2400 rpm at no load operation. Proper adjustment is one of the most important factors in maintaining
desired engine power and speed.
