MAINTENANCE ALLOCATION CHART
S e c t i o n I. Introduction
B-1. GENERAL
a .  T h i s section provides a general explanation of all maintenance and repair
f u n c t i o n s authorized at various maintenance categories.
b .  T h e Maintenance Allocation Chart (MAC)
in section II, designates overall
a u t h o r i t y and responsibility for the performance of
maintenance functions on the
i d e n t i f i e d end item or component.
The application
of the maintenance functions to
t h e end item or component will be consistent with
the capabilities and capacities
o f the designated maintenance categories.
c .  S e c t i o n III lists the tools and test equipment (both special and common
tool sets) required for each maintenance function as referenced from section II.
d .  S e c t i o n IV contains supplemental instructions and explanatory notes for
a particular maintenance function.
MAINTENANCE FUNCTIONS
Maintenance functions will be limited to and defined
as follows:
Inspect.
To determine the serviceability of an item by comparing its
a.
physical, mechanical, and/or electrical characteristics with established standards
t h r o u g h examination (e.g., by sight, sound or feel).
b . T e s t .  T o verify serviceability by measuring the mechanical, pneumatic,
hydraulic, or electrical characteristic of an item and comparing those character-
istics with prescribed standards.
c .  Service. Operations required periodically to keep an item in proper
o p e r a t i n g condition, i.e., to clean (includes decontaminate when required), to pre-
serve, to drain, to paint, or to replenish fuel, lubricants, chemical fluids, or
gases.
d .  A d j u s t .  T o maintain or regulate, within prescribed limits, by bringing
i n t o proper or exact position, or by setting the operating characteristics to speci-
fied parameters.
e .  A l i n e .  T o adjust specified variable elements of an item to bring about
optimum or desired performance.
f .  C a l i b r a t e .  T o determine and cause corrections to be made or to be adjust-
e d on instruments or test, measuring, and diagnostic equipments used in precision
measurement.
Consists of comparisons of two instruments, one of which is a certi-
f i e d standard of known accuracy, to detect and adjust any descrepancy in the acc-
u r a c y of the instrument being compared.
